How Do Apartment Key Fobs Work?

Apartment key fobs are wireless access devices that use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) or NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to unlock doors in a building. When the fob is tapped or waved near a reader at an entrance, the system verifies the fob’s unique ID against the property’s access database and, if authorized, unlocks the door. Key fobs are typically used for secure access to lobbies, elevators, garages, and amenities and can be remotely managed by property staff to add or revoke access permissions.
