A title insurance underwriter evaluates the title search results for a property, assesses risk, and issues title insurance policies that protect lenders and buyers against potential legal claims or defects in ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze title search documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify title issues, such as liens, encumbrances, easements, or ownership disputes
  • Determine insurability and appropriate coverage based on underwriting guidelines and risk assessment
  • Draft and issue title commitments and final policies
  • Communicate with title agents, attorneys, and other parties to resolve title issues
  • Ensure compliance with company, state, and federal regulations
  • Stay up to date with industry practices, underwriting standards, and changes in title law

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in real estate, law, or insurance
  • 2+ years of experience in title underwriting or a related field
  • Strong understanding of title insurance policies, legal descriptions, and real estate documents
  • Familiarity with ALTA and state-specific underwriting guidelines
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in title software and Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed Title Agent or prior experience with a national underwriter
  • Experience with both residential and commercial title transactions
